General Functions: 

The Co-Occurring Clinician is a vital team member within the Recovery Services Department. This position provides clinical and therapeutic roles, which includes direct services to clients who may have been identified as needing both mental health and substance abuse treatment.  Duties entail individual counseling, group therapy, education, mental health assessments, treatment planning, crisis intervention, coordination and referral to other health care providers, maintenance of accurate records and discharge planning.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the provision of mental health services as they occur concurrently with substance abuse/chemical dependency disorders in accordance with the mission, goals, objectives and policies and procedures of recovery services.
  • Conduct mental health assessments (SCID), interview and gather information from the client, family and other sources to aid in diagnoses and the development of an individual treatment plan that outlines goals, objectives, methods, strategies that support abstinence and life improvement and mental health disorders (panic/anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, major depressive or dysthymic disorder, bi polar disorder, various conditions related to schizophrenia disorder such as paranoia and obsessive compulsive disorder).
  • Conduct clinically specific groups that address clients’ co-occurring disorders.
  • Provide individual counseling and education to individuals through approved counseling methods, lectures and video materials. Uses approved handouts and other homework materials to enhance and support counseling experience.
  • Maintain Recovery Services Case Management System (RSCMS) client records and written reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Transport participants to various sessions and meeting.
  • Provide Case Management services as needed in accordance to best practices.
  • Coordinate referrals as they pertain to client’s mental health status to clinics, social service agencies, and continuing care; provides advocacy and follow-up on referrals as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and works collaboratively with other staff in case staffing/review.
  • Route accurate and complete statistical data to Outpatient Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Participate in training in areas related to improvement of service delivery.
  • Maintain a respectful relationship with clients, former clients, family members and peers.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to rotate and work in different clinical positions as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers and standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions, exercise good judgment, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload.
  • Strong public speaking and organizational skills.
  • Required to have current TB immunization and/or verification incumbent is a “reactor.”
  • Voluntary immunization for HEP A&B will be offered/provided.
  • Current CPR and First Aid will be provided.
  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of alcohol and other drugs to include patterns of chemical dependency, collection/evaluation of assessment, mental health disorders, etc.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling.
  • Two years’ experience working in a related field.
  • Level I or higher Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification or willing to become certified within one (1) year of employment.
  • Continued employment will be contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal criminal background check.

  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling.
  • Two years’ experience working in a related field.
  • Level I or higher Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification.
  • Willing to be licensed in the State of Alaska within 1 year of hire.
  • Continued employment will be contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal criminal background check.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and be insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age.
  • If in recovery, one year continuous sobriety prior to hire and active and continuing participation in a recovery support program, such as a 12 step program.

  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling.
  • Two years’ experience working in a related field.
  • Level I or higher Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification.
  • Licensed Clinician in the State of Alaska
  • Certified in EMDR training
  • Continued employment will be contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal criminal background check.
  • If in recovery, one year continuous sobriety prior to hire and active and continuing participation in a recovery support program, such as a 12 step program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and be insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age.
