    Job Title:

    Payroll Technician I/II/III

    Department:

    General Ledger Accountant

    C3 (I/II) / C4 (III)

    Job Type:

    Regular, Full-Time

     

    General Functions:

    This is a developmental position designed to grow in depth and breadth from Payroll Technician I to Payroll Technician III, with starting level determined based on education and experience upon hire.  The Payroll Technician function include, but are not limited to: the accurate computation, classification, recording and verifying of various financial data used in maintaining accounting records particularly as they relate to payroll, employee benefits, and payroll taxes. Performs specific payroll operations, various reports, processes various payroll related payments and maintains payroll related records for CITC.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Payroll Technician I:

    • Pre-Audits time-sheets and verifies authenticity and accuracy of data entry, payroll and file maintenance.
    • Ensures that payroll is properly authorized.
    • Ensures accurate preparation and balancing of bi-weekly payrolls.
    • Responsible for timely and accurate distribution of all payrolls.
    • Handles various payroll adjustments and changes.
    • Maintains all records in connection with payments made on behalf of employees.
    • Maintains confidentiality according to regulations.
    • Performs all related duties as assigned.

    Payroll Technician II:

    • Perform duties and responsibilities of Payroll Technician I.
    • Reconciles and prepares payments for benefits.
    • Prepares periodical payroll related analysis, statements and projections.
    • Collaborates with Managers to ensure proper coding of all payroll postings.
    • Process, maintain and update payroll records and compile reports from database as needed and/or upon request.
    • Assist in maintaining and updating accounting’s electronic folders and file management system.
    • Participate in CITC staff development training and meet attendance requirements.
    • Maintains confidentiality according to regulations.
    • Performs all related duties as assigned. 

    Payroll Technician III:

    • Perform duties and responsibilities or Payroll Technician II.
    • Produce Federal, State, and Local tax payments.
    • Assists in researching and compiling Payroll data/history in response to court orders and employee requests.
    • Assists in the annual preparation of W2’s
    • Sets up and verifies garnishments and tax levies.
    • Prepare and process electronic transmission of Payroll data such as Retirement, 125 Plans, and Payroll liabilities.
    • Reconcile employee deductions and benefits.
    • Maintains confidentiality according to regulations.
    • Performs all related duties as assigned.

     Job Specifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to provide administrative support in a timely and efficient manner with few errors.
    • Proficient computer skills, including spreadsheet, word processing and publishing programs.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • (I) Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Year-for-year related experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
    • (I)Two (2) years’ related experience in payroll.
    • (II)  Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Year-for-year related experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
    • (II) Three (3) years’ related experience in payroll.
    • (III) Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Year-for-year related experience may be substituted for degree requirement.  Minimum of four (4) years’ related experience in payroll.
    • Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of state and federal background check.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Microsoft Great Plains experience.
    • Microsoft Excel experience.
    • Empowertime Solutions experience.
