    General Functions: 

    The Co-Occurring Clinician is a vital team member across the Recovery Services Youth Services Continuum. This position provides clinical and therapeutic services, which includes direct services to participants who have been identified as needing both mental health and substance use treatment.  Duties entail individual counseling, group therapy, education, mental health screening, family counseling, treatment planning, crisis intervention, coordination and referral to needed services, maintenance of accurate records and discharge planning.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for the delivery of mental health services as they occur concurrently with substance use disorders in accordance with the mission, goals, objectives and policies and procedures of recovery services.
    • Conduct mental health screenings, suicide screenings and gather information from the participant, family and other sources to aid in diagnoses and the development of an individual treatment plan that outlines individualized goals, objectives and interventions, strategies that support substance use recovery, overall life improvement and mental health disorders.
    • Conduct clinically specific therapy groups that address participants’ co-occurring disorders.
    • Provide individual counseling, group therapy and family counseling to individuals through approved counseling methods, evidence based practices and Uses approved handouts and other homework materials to enhance and support counseling experience.
    • Maintain Recovery Services Case Management System (RSCMS) participant records and documentation that is accurate and completed timely as outline in policies and procedures.
    • Actively participate in case staffing session to assure continue of care for mental health services by addressing progress in mental health goals and objectives; as well as, participation and progress in group sessions.
    • Understand and utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques and Trauma Informed techniques while engaging participants and assisting with overall treatment.
    • Utilize a Positive Youth Development framework while engaging participants.
    • Coordinate referrals as they pertain to participant’s mental health status to clinics, social service agencies, and continuing care; provides advocacy and follow-up on referrals as needed.
    • Maintain a respectful relationship with clients, former clients, family members and peers.
    • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Job Specifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to rotate and work in different clinical positions as needed.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficient with computers and standard office equipment.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions, exercise good judgment, and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload.
    • Strong public speaking, organizational, and problem solving skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
    • Proficient knowledge and understanding of alcohol and other drugs to include patterns of chemical dependency, collection/evaluation of assessment, mental health disorders, etc.
    • Required to have current TB immunization and/or verification incumbent is a “reactor.”
    • Voluntary immunization for HEP A&B will be offered/provided.
    • Current CPR and First Aid will be provided.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling.
    • Two years’ experience working in a related field.
    • Level I or higher Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification or willing to become certified within one (1) year of employment.
    • Continued employment will be contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal criminal background check.
    • One year experience working with adolescent and/or transitional aged youth, and/or families, experiencing SUD/COD.
    • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and be insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Licensed by the State of Alaska.
    • EMDR Certified and Trained.
    • Trauma Informed/Trained.
