    General Functions:

    The Fab Lab Instructor will be responsible for the completion of a variety of general and specific duties related to the Mobile Fab Lab, to include: learning and teaching software and equipment in the Fab Lab, developing and implementing STEM-enrichment modules in select elementary schools in the Anchorage School District, supervising Camp instructors, plan and implement camp sessions and community STEM events, mentoring and monitoring for safety of participants and volunteers.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Become familiar with the CITC Fab Lab, safety rules, and project plans.
    • Become proficient in lab software and equipment, and provide instruction on software and equipment to participants, interns and volunteers.
    • Draft safety procedures and lab manuals and adjust as needed.
    • Develop culturally infused STEM-enrichment education modules (project based instructables).
    • Implement cultural infused fabrication-based STEM-enrichment modules to select classrooms in the Anchorage School District
    • Organize STEM-enrichment camps
    • Train and supervise adult and youth camp instructors
    • Provide after-school based instruction to youth
    • Organize community based  STEM-events
    • Participate in training provided by equipment manufacturers as directed.
    • Give Fab Lab tours to visitors.
    • Assist in recruiting new potential volunteers for the Fab Lab through the tours, community contact, and outreach opportunities.
    • Develop relationships with potential community partners outside of CITC, with the goal of sharing Fab Lab technology to enrich the lives of our youth.
    • Supervision of youth during design and creation of Fab Lab projects, during camp sessions and school break sessions, and as directed during other activities.
    • Supervise participants’ safety during in-school, after-school, and camp activities, including activities conducted on the CITC campus, during the transportation of youth to outside events/camps, and activities held offsite.
    • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Perform all related duties as assigned.

    Job Specifications:

    • Knowledgeable of Fab Lab and CITC personnel policies.
    • Ability to work both independently and as a contributory team member in a positive, productive manner.
    • Ability to use sound judgment when interacting with staff and participants of various ages and backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, staff, youth participants, parents and general public. 
    • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Perform under pressure with the ability to effectively handle numerous priority events at same time.
    • Work effectively with Alaska Native and American Indians, with an understanding of social and cultural needs of the native community.
    • Demonstrated understanding of tools and equipment, and tool safety.
    • Demonstrated experience with a variety of technology and design software programs.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Minimum two years’ experience in working with Alaska Native/American Indian youth ages 9-18.
    • Valid Driver’s License and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires driver to be at least 21 years of age.
    • Continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory report from a state and federal background check.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum two years’ experience working with a variety of design software.
    • Current First Aid and CPR.
